Cardiovascular sequelae of childhood hypertension.

چکیده
Blood pressure (BP) elevation is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in adults. More recently, it has been established through autopsy studies and studies using noninvasive imaging techniques that BP elevation is also a risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis in childhood and adolescence. Hypertension is a powerful risk factor for left ventricular hypertrophy and for congestive heart failure in adults. It is now clear that BP elevation is also associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in children and adolescents. If cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality are to be prevented, then children with elevated BP must be identified and appropriately treated.

Hypertension in Hypothyroidism; a Rare Association in Childhood
The association of hypothyroidism with hypertension is an uncommon phenomenon. Hypertension adds to cardiovascular risk in any population and hypertension due to hypothyroidism is reversible with hormonal replacement. Although there are various case studies exists in adults but such reports are rare in children.
متن کاملHigh Rate of Obesity-Associated Hypertension among Primary Schoolchildren in Sudan
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) frequently has roots in childhood, including following childhood-onset hypertension. Incidence of CVD has increased in developing countries in East Africa during recent urbanization. Effects of these shifts on childhood hypertension are unclear. Our objectives were to (1) Determine the prevalence of hypertension among primary schoolchildren in Khartoum, Sudan; (2) D...
متن کاملPerspectives on systolic hypertension. The Framingham study.
Diastolic hypertension has been widely and justifiably accepted as a cause of cardiovascular mortality. However, it has also been accepted that the cardiovascular sequelae of hypertension derive chiefly from the diastolic component. Because systolic and diastolic pressure are usually highly correlated it is not easy to dissociate the effects of each. Statistical analysis suggests that systolic ...
متن کاملAverting the legacy of kidney disease-focus on childhood
World Kidney Day 2016 focuses on kidney disease in childhood and the antecedents of adult kidney disease that can begin in earliest childhood. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) in childhood differs from that in adults, as the largest diagnostic group among children includes congenital anomalies and inherited disorders, with glomerulopathies and kidney disease in the setting of diabetes being rela...
متن کاملA review of the role of atrial natriuretic peptide gene polymorphisms in hypertension and its sequelae.
The natriuretic peptide precursor A (NPPA) gene, found on chromosome 1p36, encodes the precursor from which atrial natriuretic polypeptide (ANP) is derived. Due to the action of ANP, it is thought that the NPPA gene is involved in the control of blood pressure. Animal studies have shown that genetically reduced ANP concentration leads to salt-sensitive hypertension, whereas genetically increase...
